Macquarie University

Australia's Innovative University

The administration of Macquarie University has been the first to recognise the benefits of hosting Easters 2008 and has pledged its support in the organisation and delivering of the event - above and beyond the requests of the organising committee to ensure that our organising committee can access the full range of resources to make this tournament great.

Partnership so far has focused on logistical support, the use of buildings and grounds, links to faculties, funding, and interaction with research park members in gathering together sponsorship partners. MUDS and Macquarie University are working together to showcase its ability to deliver state of the art services to students. We believe that running a high quality tournament will enhance the reputation and expertise of the University, and its students. This can only serve to encourage a greater place for debating within student life at Macquarie.

Our campus was built on old orchard and farming lands in 1964, following inspiration from Stanford University, as the third tertiary institution in Sydney. Known for its brutalist architecture, Macquarie is a sprawling site of concrete buildings, though surrounded by trees. We have a man-made lake, a golf course, an observatory, a rather interesting sculpture park, a museum, an art gallery and a mini zoo. The region's zoning over time has focussed on research and development, with the rise in corporate headquarters and offices aiding Macquarie's dedication to post-graduate education.

Macquarie's student body, U@MQ "exists to provide the essential non-academic services and facilities that help you achieve a healthy and balanced approach to University life." What U@MQ does best, though, is Conception Day - the stuff of legend (notably the celebration of the conception of our namesake, Governor Lachlan Macquarie). Mac students come together for a day of internationally regarded bands, challenging Guinness Book records and contesting the toughest battle of them all, the Beer Olympics. Macquarie knows how to have fun, and how to deliver big events which exceed expectations.
